Shanghai: My Eyes Have Officially Been Opened.

Half a Month of Living in Shanghai~
(Shanghai is often called "沪", just like Beijing is called "京"!)
- Having lived in Beijing for three years, I considered myself quite familiar with the city as if I were half a local Beijinger, hehe! I recently moved to Shanghai and have been here for only two weeks.
- I must say that there are noticeable differences between Shanghai and Beijing, two major international metropolises!
- Beijing felt more like a mature, reliable, and stately "big brother" to me, with a rich historical heritage. The narrow streets in older neighborhoods conceal stories of years gone by.
- In contrast, Shanghai seems more like an elegant and refined girl (小囡, which means little girl in Shanghainese — isn't it cute!). This city is everywhere full of towering skyscrapers and teems with modern appeal and vitality.
- No profound thoughts here; I simply jotted down some fresh impressions to share with everyone!

Hey everyone, any tips on finding a more affordable apartment with a convenient commute around Chaoyang, Anding Road, or near the Beitucheng Line?

I think the key is to contact several agents and have each show you around 3 places. Then you can make your choice. I've bumped your post; hopefully, someone in the know can help you out.

I was on assignment for two years. At first, everything felt great and new. But deep down, I'm pretty unpretentious. Once the novelty wore off, I still preferred Beijing's down-to-earth vibe, the dry air (clothes dry so quickly!), the wonderful warm heating, and the clear blue skies.

You've nailed all the reasons I love Beijing! Seriously, every single point you mentioned hits the mark for me.

When I'm on a business trip in Shanghai: I dress up, aiming for that polished, sophisticated look. When I'm living in Beijing: Dressing up feels a little... out of place, almost embarrassing.
-
Yes, yes, yes, that's exactly what I mean! In Beijing, I'd even dare to go out in my pajamas. In Shanghai, I wore a face-washing headband out yesterday and got some funny looks.
-
Having lived in both Beijing and Shanghai, to be honest, I prefer Shanghai.
-
I lived in Beijing for over 20 years and have been in Shanghai for 4. Life in Shanghai is very convenient, and I like almost everything about it... except how easily things get moldy at home.

I've been posted in Beijing for 5 years, earning a Shanghai salary, which is really nice. The cost of living here is quite comfortable for me. I'm a homebody, so I don't really mind not going out much – online shopping solves everything. No need to worry about mold, and there's heating in winter. The only downside to Beijing for me is probably the lack of delicious food. Takeout is often bad, many restaurants are meh, dessert shops are pitifully few, the crayfish isn't good, and the BBQ is overwhelmingly salty. Luckily, mutton hot pot is there to save my life!
