Hey there, friends! When you visit Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou – an incredibly well-known Buddhist temple and scenic area – you may need to pay extra attention when using the restroom.
- If you don't have your phone or if your device is out of power, get ready for no access to toilet paper.
- The temple provides toilet paper by scanning a QR code on your phone.
- Each scan usually dispenses only a small portion of paper, and frequently with a little advertisement as well.
️ Heads-up for international friends:
- These QR codes are generally targeted at Chinese local apps. Without a compatible phone or app to recognize and scan these QR codes, you'll likely have no way to access the toilet paper.
- What to do:
- Carry your own tissues in advance! (Bring your own tissues!)
- Otherwise, ask a friendly local if they could help you scan the code.
In summary, for international visitors, the absence of being able to operate those scanners in Lingyin Temple means “no paper!” Please be prepared for that scenario!

Without these QR code ads, there probably wouldn't even be a single square of toilet paper left. The older folks would have taken it all.

True! That's definitely a possibility

What? That's so absurd!
