AVOID! Formaldehyde Nightmare at Hangzhou Nanshan Biyuan!

Hey there, friends, especially those who are coming to visit Hangzhou and particularly the international visitors! I have a piece of advice for you:

I am going to rant about Nan Shan Courtyard (West Lake Scenic Area Liulangwenying Park Branch).

• It was opened earlier this year, and normally it costs around 100-200 RMB per night. However!

  • Background Tip: Newly renovated hotels, especially in China, might have a strong chemical smell due to new furniture or renovation materials, which could contain formaldehyde (a harmful substance to humans). This hotel has that "newly-renovated" smell.
  • Now, during the May Day holiday (one of the major public holidays in China where many people travel, causing hotel prices to skyrocket), they abruptly hiked their prices up to 700-800 RMB!

• I wasn't able to stay there due to some circumstances.

  • ️ Important Alert! Really Unfair Hotel Practice!
    • I communicated with them late at night, and they said the hotel doesn't charge for cancellations but hinted that the booking platform might. I was told to contact the platform myself.
    • But in the morning, their attitude had changed completely! They claimed my room was reserved all night long despite not checking in, and they refused to refund any accommodation fees. What kind of trickery is this?

• The manager at this hotel was very unaccommodating and impatient! Her attitude was terrible; she seemed to not care if we filed complaints.

• Caution Warning! Stay Away From This Place!

  • I beg of you, if you come across this place, avoid it and take another route!
  • How To Avoid It: If you should face any small disputes or issues with them, be aware that it will be extremely difficult to get any refund from their side! The best way out would be to avoid booking with them altogether or choose to book somewhere that allows free cancellation.

• What a lousy hotel! A lousy hotel indeed! I'll say it again, because it's such a rotten hotel!
