For my last meal in Beijing, I had chaogan (stir-fried liver), and I really couldn't stomach it. The flavor was just too intense.

We arrived too late, so I couldn't get the traditional costume and makeup done. Inside the Forbidden City, my boyfriend and I didn't even get to see some parts. Then at Tiananmen Square, after taking photos, we accidentally re-entered a Forbidden City gate and had to walk all the way around to get out again – it nearly killed me! I was so exhausted I had no energy left to see the rest of the Forbidden City properly. So many inner palace doors were locked, and you couldn't see inside many places. The Dragon Throne was roped off so far back, and with the bright sunlight outside, it was too dark to actually see anything inside.

Wangfujing needs a reservation?

This is the one – hope this helps others avoid the scam. We had to meet at 5:40 AM to go to the Great Wall, and I was freezing to death today. We just had a quick look around the Bird's Nest and Water Cube, then they dragged us off to some random place to watch a show. You really can't just go for the cheapest option. Next time, I'm definitely planning my own trip and going independent!

Usually, the ones cutting in line are people from out of town with terrible manners (no offense intended).

I once stayed in a hotel in Nanning. I slept through the night and only then realized the window facing outside had been open the whole time. It was so quiet and comfortable! You're welcome to visit Shanghai.

You wander around and it's always just the same few places. And then they have all sorts of markets and pop-up shops, which are basically just ways to get you to spend more money.

It's all just hype from those internet-famous shops, and it's become a real nuisance for the residents.

Shenzhen is full of dirty country bumpkins from Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi. The city's a mess – filthy, disorganized, with e-scooters whizzing around recklessly. The people are low-class, and it has the highest crime rate in the nation.

Do you recommend going on the weekend?

Alipay is perfectly fine.

I actually find visiting Shanghai for fun pretty relaxing. Older people here seem to have their own distinct, unhurried vibe.
