AVOID THIS 'BOUTIQUE' STAY Near Yongqing Fang, Guangzhou! π£ TOTAL RIP-OFF!
-
Oh my gosh, everyone! I'm speechless right now!
-
I was planning to visit the Yongqing Fang (an old street area with a unique charm and great for taking pictures) and Shamian Island (a small island full of European ambiance), so I wanted to find somewhere close to stay
.
-
I saw the top recommendation on a booking app, and the photos werenβt terrible; it had a projector and other fancy amenities. I knew that the photos were enhanced, but this experience was a total nightmare!
. When I entered the room, there was water puddle splashing on the ground
β this is not the worst part.
. The bedοΈ was like as hard as a piece of wood (just kidding, but still, extremely hard)! Be careful if you want to roll over in such a small bed that your feet might bump into the end of the bed.
. There were just two disposable toothbrushes given, and even no disposable slippers at all.
. The tiny restroomcould only let one person stand sideways.
. These slippers provided have a 'historical touch' looks kind of old and dirty.
. The towels and tissues 𧻠have some unknown old smell.
. To add salt to the injury, the projector was just like a pixelated TVin childhood (about hygiene, everyone can decide for themselves if they want to trust it
).

Whatβs more, I booked during the National Day holiday (golden week, when many places charge more) β it was 210 RMB per night
! Honestly, for this price, you can find much better accommodations by adding just a little more.
(By the way, after staying there, they did not offer a refund, and I argued for a long time until they admitted to giving half a refund.)

οΈ IMPORTANT WARNING: Absolutely, ABSOLUTELY must carefully read the reviews from other guests!

- The photos online might look different from the actual room, as the condition and facilities may be less expected than one would think.
- Still, it is closer to Yongqing Fang and Shamian Island (just the way I can console myself), although the small alley in the old town really gives me eerie feeling especially at night with not enough lights (Especially for girls, they may feel unsafe
).
Travel tips summary:
- Make sure you thoroughly read the reviews from other guests before booking!
- Carefully look at the pictures and descriptions of the surrounding areas, especially if you care about safety at night. Check if the accommodation is in dimly lit old alleys and stay away if needed.
- Of course, donβt forget to consider your budget
.
I hope everyone won't make the same mistake as I did! Stay tuned for what others say about their local experiencesοΌ

I stayed at a Home Inn.
-
So, which hotel is this? Could you name it so we can avoid it?
-
Now that Airbnb has left China, you really have to scrutinize homestays carefully before booking.
-
I stayed at an American-style place similar to this one, and it was the same. Water leaked into the room every time you showered. The room was tiny β two people could barely turn around β and the facilities were awful.
-
My personal experience: if there's no one-take video tour of the property on its main page, there's usually a problem with it.
-
Excuse me, which place is this?
-
Looking at these bathroom floor tiles, I actually saved this place yesterday, thinking I might check it out for the Sanyuesan holiday.
-
When you're traveling for fun, just skip the homestays. It's not that all homestays are bad, but you go on vacation to be happy, right? Why spend money to make yourself miserable? Isn't booking a chain hotel a better idea?
-
This is exactly why I'm hesitant to book homestays. They can be such a rip-off.
