Disappointment in Chengdu
A half-day trip to Dujiangyan... (I feel like the value for money is extremely low, and it's all over-hyped online, which is quite disappointing. The weather was scorching hot 🥵, so if you're planning to bring your kids, think twice!
)
Transportation
The development of tourism here doesn't match the promotion on short-video platforms. If you live in the urban area of Chengdu, you can take a train from Xipu Station to Lidui Park Station or Dujiangyan Station! (There are more trains to Dujiangyan Station, but fewer to Lidui Park Station, leaving you with limited options.) However, once you get off the train, there are tons of touts (be cautious)! You can choose to take a taxi via Didi (it's available). The station construction is relatively simple; during the summer, it gets extremely hot inside, except for the entrance area which is somewhat cooler.
Short-video platforms promote the scenic spots extensively, but the reality is not as advertised. The entrance ticket costs 80 yuan, and there's a lot of walking involved. With the hot weather, it's exhausting. The first part of the route has very few plants, just dry heat. There are sightseeing vehicles, but the queues are extremely long (the scenic area could increase the frequency of these vehicles to reduce waiting times).
The main attraction is the water conservancy project. I felt that the tourist services in the park were inadequate; there were no maps provided, and very few signposts, making it unfriendly for independent travelers. There is a QR code within the park for audio guides (although it says "free," you actually have to pay after scanning, which feels like a scam).
Prices Inside the Park
(One word: Expensive, not worth it
) It's almost as expensive as theme parks in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. A bottle of mineral water that usually costs 1 yuan is sold for 10 yuan here (if possible, bring your own water bottles). But you won't receive service comparable to that of Disneyland.
Nearby Transportation
This also doesn't match the development of the local tourism industry. Only Didi and unofficial taxis are available.
