Park Hyatt Shanghai: Gripe Session! Who's with me?!
-
Well, I must complain. This is definitely the most disappointing "luxury" hotel I've ever stayed at...
- It cost me 2,000 RMB per night! How silly of me not to have chosen The PuLi Hotel and Spa instead?!
- By the way, for those of you who are unfamiliar, The PuLi Hotel is another renowned luxury hotel in Shanghai known for its design and services, typically with far better reviews than the one I stayed at.
- This time, it was the Shanghai Park Hyatt where I decided to stay.
- Travelers Beware!
- My advice: If you're planning to spend a lot of money (like 2,000 RMB per night) on a luxury hotel in Shanghai, think twice about choosing the Hyatt Park.
- Avoiding Pitfalls: This certainly isn't saying that everything about it was bad, but the price I paid could definitely have gotten me a better experience at other places. At the very least, you should always compare hotels within the same class and read reviews to avoid making similar regrettable mistakes.
Hope my sharing could help everyone and save them from making similar errors!

I think it's quite good.
-
The room was old, facilities were outdated, and the service was just average. While there's one decent restaurant and some views from the higher floors, the overall experience was extremely underwhelming. Honestly, you'd be better off paying a bit more to stay at the J Hotel across the street for superior views.
-
Their view is basically their 'pension plan' – it's what they rely on. There's nothing you can do about it.
-
Perhaps some people just genuinely like the views from the high floors.
-
I couldn't agree more. For over 2000 RMB, why wouldn't I choose The Middle House? They even took three months to return my deposit!
-
Is The Middle House nice to stay at?
-
I haven't stayed in their non-suite rooms, but I have no complaints about their suites.
-
So, you're a fan of the view, are you?
-
The view was awful. Paid 2300 for a Pujiang view room, and there was practically no view at all.
-
You'd be better off at the Mandarin Oriental.
-
But their Diplomat Suite is genuinely fantastic, though.
-
The rooms are incredibly run-down, practically bare-walled, and very old. Yet, there's a whole group of people online who love it, going on about 'Master Jaya Ibrahim's design,' 'the art of negative space,' or 'its Chinese style.' Anyway, this place is just plain odd.
-
'Bare-walled' is a very accurate description.
-
Why not stay at the Ritz-Carlton for an unobstructed view?
-
I feel like many hotels in Shanghai are quite old.
-
It's just too old. You're better off paying a bit more for the J Hotel.
