Hey, I’m calling out the car with bad manners today!
Who was involved?
- A car with a license plate starting with "Jin D” ("晋D” in Chinese). (For the foreign friends, “晋” stands for Shanxi Province, meaning this is an out-of-town car from Shanxi. In China, the first Chinese character on license plates represents the province or municipality where the vehicle is registered.)
- When and Where? At 3:36 PM on August 18, 2024, at the intersection of Xihuan Road and Jinhua Road, Suzhou.
- What’s the offense? You parked your car in our designated bicycle lane designated for non-motorized vehicles such as bicycles and electric bikes!
(Non-motorized lanes are dedicated to slow-moving modes of transportation like bicycles or electric scooters, and motorized vehicles should not occupy them.)
The scene that day:
- Many of us who were cycling or riding electric bikes were following traffic rules and waiting patiently at the intersection for the green light.
- Then you, a car that constantly honked its horn behind us, urging on what? After turning green, we will naturally set off on our way. To say to make way for you by breaking the law and dashing through the red light is a ridiculous expectation.
Even worse:
- The guy wearing sunglasses in the passenger seat kept using rough language.
- I just wanted to ask, it’s you guys who got the rule wrong, yet being so arrogant, do you think you’re right?
My thoughts:
- Honestly, Suzhou does not welcome drivers with low morals! Don’t, because of your uncivilized behavior, cause other tourists to have a poor experience in Suzhou and write bad travel reviews like “Suzhou - beware. I’ve been bitten. Avoid at all costs!”
(“Beware” is a term loved by Chinese netizens to caution people against certain places or activities, reminding you to avoid possible trouble or unhappiness.)
️ Important advice and precautions for visitors, especially international tourists arriving in Suzhou:
- Look out for Traffic Safety!
At some intersections in Suzhou, you might come across drivers who don't follow traffic rules well, like driving cars onto bike lanes. - If you’re cycling or walking around Suzhou, be sure to stay alert to ensure your own safety.
- What if You Face Uncivilized Behavior?
If you encounter rude drivers - honking or making unfriendly gestures towards you, avoid confrontations at all costs as safety always comes first.
Sometimes, you can't change people’s behavior, no matter how hard to understand it may seem. - Don’t let Minor Issues Ruin Your Good Mood:
Suzhou is a beautiful city with many wonderful things to see (like the famous Hanshan Temple!). Don’t let individual unpleasant people or incidents make you unimpressed with Suzhou as a whole.

I heard that mines have an annual 'death quota,' but I don't know if it's true or not.
-
What's definitely true, though, is that there are a lot of funeral homes near the mines.
