So Long, Shenzhen: The City That (Actually) Spat On Me.
-
Righty-o, this trip to Shenzhen for Star-chasing adventure is truly beyond words. Let me recount it and advise anyone planning to visit!
Firstly, I was incredibly excited to watch Singaporean singer Stefanie Sun's concert.
- It was held in R&F Dream Center (a huge shopping mall) courtyard, where a fan support event was going on, basically, fans congregating to cheer for their idol. However, unexpectedly, someone spat on my arm from upstairs! Good heavens, how could such nasty things happen? This really ruined my mood.
Secondly, I had borrowed one of those shared power banks you're familiar with.
- With only 2% extra battery after half an hour, I was freaking out about missing the pictures of Stefanie inside. As a result, I awkwardly stood at the toilet door charging. (You can imagine the situation or refer to Image 1 I mentioned)
Lastly, I tried to ask some staff members for directions at a subway entrance.
- They coldly looked at me without saying a word; such a cold attitude.
Darn it, my experience in Shenzhen wasn't that great. Back home then, better to stick to fitness than social events...
Travel Highlights and Complaints (for foreign friends as reference):
-
Public Space Surprises:
- My Encounter: Someone spat on me from upstairs while attending a concert in the mall yard.
- Treat Carefully: Although this might be a rare incident, take notice of your surroundings in crowded places. These situations are hard to avoid. Just be prepared to encounter unpleasant surprises.
-
On Borrowing Power Banks:
- My Encounter: Very low charging efficiency (only 2% after half an hour).
- Treat Carefully: If phone battery is important to you, bring a fully charged power bank. Alternatively, if you have to borrow one, you may need to find a socket to charge patiently. Don't rely on shared power banks.
-
On Asking for Directions:
- My Encounter: Subway staff were unhelpful and indifferent towards me.
- Treat Carefully: Before setting off, ensure you check routes online on a map app. If necessary for direction assistance, try asking more people or choose friendly-looking passersby to help you. Sometimes busy staff or language difference can cause difficulties in communication.

You should find someone to go with you.

There's no one.
-
Is this you?
-
Dude, you're doing it wrong!
-
What way?
-
Pretty good, actually. The subway still has seats – I've never been on one this empty before!
-
Hey handsome, where are those pants from? And the shoes too? Dying to know!
-
Pants are Under Armour, shoes are Anta.
-
You mean you didn't snag tickets for Beijing?
-
Yep, left.
-
I want to leave Shenzhen too.
-
Good thing I'm just here for the concert.
