Adios, Hangzhou! City of... Uh... No Nightlife Whatsoever.

In Hangzhou, only the malls try to stay open until 10:30 PM. Otherwise, you're pretty much looking at bars and similar places. Most people need to get to bed early for work the next day – at this hour, it's like even the 'rich kids' are busy packing at the factory.

Last night at 9:30 PM, I wanted to go to a salon to get my hair washed, but they were all closed—some by 8:00 PM, others by 9:00 PM! Meanwhile, in Xi'an at 9:00 PM, you can't even get a front-row spot for the musical fountain.

It's not because it's the off-season; there genuinely is no nightlife. We have to rush home to get the kids to bed and make sure they study.

Many restaurants close before 10 PM, that's so early!

We went to the Qiantang River on the evening of the 7th, and there was one then. We've already left Hangzhou today.

There are more people out at night here than in Suzhou. Suzhou is practically deserted at night.

The buses also stop running really early; most are gone by 8 or 9 PM.

This actually counts as having nightlife now... Way back when I used to visit West Lake, the last buses were pretty much around 6 PM.
