Walking to work, I feel like a monkey navigating a jungle, ooh ooh aah aah!

Guangzhou is the real champion of humidity; Hangzhou is a step behind.

I studied and worked in Guangzhou for 8 years, and I still almost got heatstroke when I came to Hangzhou.

Never mind, I'm off to Hupao (Tiger Spring) to be a monkey and escape the heat.

            That sounds pretty comfortable then.

It's a total steam cage. You're in a cage woven from plants, getting steamed. When the water's low, it pours. Then the sun comes out to heat things up. Just when you're nearly cooked, more water! Ensures everyone becomes a plump, dewy-skinned, little steamed bun.

Who else gets this? I used to wash my hair every two days, now it feels constantly damp.

Feels like dry shampoo is essential in Hangzhou. I can't stand washing my hair every single day.

                    It's finally dry today!

It's still early days! Wait until July and August – that's when it truly becomes a human-sized steamer, like a sauce reducing on high heat.

At least then it's a dry heat. Right now, it's like being soaked in a freshwater pond.

That's just how it is for us working folks, feeling like monkeys.

I've been here for five years, and I'm still not used to it.

I've been here for seven years, and I'm not used to it either. It's freezing cold in winter, boiling hot in summer, and I inevitably get prickly heat every summer.
