Suzhou, You've Left Me Speechless (And Not in a Good Way!) #WTFSuzhou
-
Sure thing! I've got this under control, and will make it clear for you so that foreign friends can easily understand!
Hey everyone! First of all, I apologize. My title might be a bit clickbait!
- Finally, we have the Chinese National Day holiday (a very important public holiday, so there will be a lot of people!), so we planned to explore nearby places. Eventually, we chose Suzhou, and I even did quite a bit of research beforehand.
- Little did I know that after arriving there on the second day, it started raining, which ruined a lot of my plans to visit the places I wanted and do what I wanted.
So, here are some tips I would like to share with you:
️ Travel Tips & Handy Tricks:
- Suzhou Museum: This place is incredibly popular. It is absolutely necessary to purchase your tickets online in advance!
- Why? Because the famous architect I.M. Pei designed it, making it unique, and free of charge, so without an advanced booking system, it's almost impossible to get in during holidays.
- How? Normally, tickets are given out a few days in advance on the official mini-program or website – make sure to set your alarm!
- "Bigpants" and Musical Fountain:
- "Bigpants" is actually a nickname from locals for Oriental Gateway, a skyscraper because really its appearance resembles a pair of pants. It is located near Jinji Lake, which has a musical fountain.
- The musical fountain is quite popular. Many people arrive there hours earlier to secure a space, so if you want to watch it, make sure to plan ahead!
- Tip: Especially during holidays, good viewing spots are highly sought after.
- Please check weather forecasts before traveling!
- My lesson: I suffered greatly because of the rain this time. If I had known it would rain, I would’ve adapted my schedule, or at least brought suitable rain gear.
Because of the rain, I couldn't visit these places:
- Esun Bookstore
- Pingjiang Road (a historic old street in Suzhou with many small shops and unique delicacies)
- Shantang Street (an ancient street parallel to Shantang River, known for its beautiful nightviews)
- We also told my girlfriend, we were going to take a photoshoot with her in Hanfu style (that traditional flowing attire of Ancient China), but could only postpone it to next visit!
Although travel always comes full of unexpected twists that result in minor regrets, isn't it the reason why we look forward to another trip back?
Finally, friends, keep an eye on weather updates before leaving for a trip! Have yourselves a wonderful time!

I was expecting to see how you'd roast Suzhou, but it turns out you're just here to show off your pretty girlfriend. You're the type we try to avoid.

Suzhou is great! It's just that the weather was bad, so I couldn't explore much. I'll have to come back another time!
