Shanghai Right Now π₯: It's a Hot Mess. Seriously Advising ALL Unplanned Tourists to STAY AWAY π₯²π₯²
-
Sure, friends, let me tell you, Shanghai is truly an international metropolis, no doubt about it! But please don't let that lead you to believe that you can just wander around carelessly in a big city!
-
Frankly speaking: If you go without doing some advance research, like checking out what places are fun to visit, you might run into some little troubles. So I advise you to be cautious!
- This time, every sightseeing spot presented some rather annoying 'surprises'βin short, they were pitfalls!
- These insights were hard-won, learned from bitter experiences. Fellow friends planning a trip to Shanghai, grab your notebooks and take good notes!
-
οΈ Extra Tip: Be Wary of Pitfalls
- Why be careful? Because without preparation, you might waste time, spend money unnecessarily, or even ruin the mood of your trip. Many popular attractions can get crowded, and some places may appear beautiful but have mediocre experiences once you're there.
- How to avoid them?
- Before setting off, read others' travelogues and especially their gripes; those are the most valuable tips!
- Try to visit popular spots during off-peak hours, or book appointments in advance through official channels.
- Don't set expectations too high for those trendy spots that everyone raves about; keep a level head.
I hope my "trial and error" experiences can help you, so that you can enjoy a smooth and pleasant journey in Shanghai!

Skipping Lujiazui is fine, but if you do go, IFC is a must-visit. Also, I think you've mixed up Wharf's IFS with Sun Hung Kai's IFC. Besides, those other IFSs and Nanjing's IFC can't even hold a candle to Shanghai's IFC in terms of vibrancy. And why skip Xintiandi? The Xintiandi area on Huangpi South Road, part of Middle Huaihai Road, is beautiful, great for strolling, and super accessible by transport. Jing'an Temple shouldn't be a standalone visit; after exploring Yuyuan Road (between Zhongshan Park and Jiangsu Road), take a one-stop subway ride to Jing'an Temple and use it as your starting point. The roughly one-kilometer stretch of West Nanjing Road from Jing'an Temple to Zhangyuan is, without a doubt, the most bustling, fashionable, and stunning commercial district in all of Shanghai. It's also packed with historical buildings like Zhangyuan, the 'Lust, Caution' crossroads, Prada Rong Zhai, the Shanghai Exhibition Center, Jing'an Villas, and Changde Apartments (the prototype for Eileen Chang's apartment in 'Life's Little Pleasures'), to name a few.

Taking a taxi and no traffic jams? Wow! I quite like taking taxis; it wasn't congested during the National Day holiday.
