Shanghai for Dragon Boat: Everyone drop ONE "踩雷" (pitfall/tourist trap)! 1

Absolutely, I'll help you get the information you need! Planning to visit Shanghai but worried about being “culture shock”? Let me reach out to everyone for you!

    • People often say that spending in Shanghai feels like “having its own currency”?
      • (I'm not talking about actually using a different currency. From what I understand, it might mean that costs are higher in some places, or that there are some consumer habits/payments that people unfamiliar with the area are not well acquainted with).
    • So I'd like to ask my friends who have been there before:
      • Have any of them encountered any “big pitfalls” that are not so pleasant? Feel free to share your experience so that others (and especially me!) can learn from it!
      • Travel Avoid-the-Pitfalls Advice Board (Looking for tips!):
        • Attention! Are there any places where tourists are particularly easy to become victims of unfair practices? Such as unreasonable price hikes or services that do not meet their promises?
        • How to avoid getting caught up? Does anyone have any tips or advice that will help us, the newcomers, not to experience such unpleasant experiences?
      • I appreciate any comments and stories shared by you all, so that I myself can get prepared in advance, and hopefully not be taken advantage of when I arrive in Shanghai. Thanks a lot everyone!

For hailing a taxi at Hongqiao, this is a good reference. I wouldn't recommend going to the in-station parking lots by following the signs. Drivers there might not come to your exact pickup spot, and it's a real pain trying to find your car. Also, it seems drivers only get a couple of free entries into the parking lot daily, so you might have to pay an extra 10 RMB for parking. If you don't pay it, the driver might get grumpy. It's better to follow the advice in this post and catch a taxi from outside the station area.
