Guangdong: The Ancestors' Connoisseur's Choice for Exile.
-
Listen up, and I'll tell you about my experience as a long-time resident of Guangdong. If you plan on visiting this place, here are some things you should be aware of beforehand:
Guangdong has an exceptionally lengthy summer season, almost 9 to 10 months long. Its air humidity can often reach over 80%;
- This means the air feels sticky much like that of a sauna.
- It can also rain suddenly, with bright sunshine one moment followed by heavy rain the next. Thus, it’s best to carry an umbrella when going out.
In addition, there are some pleasant surprises waiting for you:
- Be aware! You might encounter 'flying black beetles', otherwise known as flying cockroaches. They’re very common and more so in old residential areas or humid environments, try your best to keep your living area clean and dry to avoid seeing them.
- Be cautious too! There are many "electric chickens", which we nickname electric motorcycles and bikes - they move swiftly while making little noise. When walking around or crossing the road, pay attention and watch out!
Additionally, you will notice that:
- Getting sweaty daily is just part of the deal.
- Residents there typically dress up in loose pants paired with slippers. They prioritize comfort above all else.
If you strive for stylish dressing, you may find Guangdong a bit disappointing. Even glossy celebrities would be unable to retain their glamour in the humid and hot weather conditions.
Being comfortable and cool is our primary mission in Guangdong. Feel free to wear any breathable, loose clothing you have. No one around here will ever mock you for it!

Haha, why isn't anyone talking about the food?
-
I can't complain about the food; I actually found it quite delicious, hahaha!
-
That really paints a picture!
-
Coming from the Northeast, I'm really struggling to adapt. It's just so muggy every day.
-
It's truly muggy. I feel like whatever sunscreen I put on when I go out, I just end up 'washing my face' with sweat.
-
You can only imagine how tough life in Guangdong must have been thousands or hundreds of years ago: poisonous insects and snakes getting into homes, people randomly dying from poison on the roads, clothes that were hard to dry, frequent floods and mudslides, constant rain, and foggy days half the time.
-
And now people willingly 'exile' themselves there.
-
Now it's become one of the country's strongest provinces.
-
Oh, come on. It's already started to decline.
-
So true, so true!
-
You still need a jacket at night in Dalian right now.
-
A huge flying insect flew in last night and scared me to death. When I took a closer look, it was a cockroach.

This smiley face is so cute!
