St. Regis Shenzhen Qianhai: Worth the Splurge? The Full Lowdown – Pros & Cons!
-
Hello, everyone! Last weekend, I visited the newly opened St. Regis Hotel in Shenzhen's Qianhai area. I'll break down both the perks and the drawbacks of this hotel for you. Qianhai is a new seaside development zone within the city.
Pros: Definitely eye-catching ones!
- Beautiful Seaside Suite – Indescribable Luxe!
I stayed at a Caroline Suite, where both the living room and bedroom had 180-degree panoramic seaviews. Picture yourself lying on the bed, pulling back the curtains only to find the famous Observation Wheel "Vista Horizon" just right before your eyes – how romantic and breathtaking!
The quality items used in the rooms such as FRETTE bathrobes and slippers as well as SHANG XIA (a premium Chinese brand) tableware and cups were also excellent symbols of prestige.
The closet was also well-organized with plenty of details. You can have your scarves, pants and belts each with its own dedicated space with shoe trees and shoe horns complete – detail oriented people would love it.
- Hotel Facilities and Features are Like Small Art Galleries!
Artworks dot the entire place, attracting many people specifically for photo-taking. I especially like the revolving stairs, anytime with sufficient light makes perfect snapshots.
- A Memorable Breakfast Experience and Procedure-Filled Dish!
Breakfast is served at the “Yanting” restaurant on the 34th floor where various freshly made dishes are provided daily.
On Saturday, I enjoyed XO sauce cake (traditional local snack cooked with XO sauce). On Sunday –cod fish congee (freshly cooked rice porridge with cod) - the chef rolls the trolley to serve right next to your table, while hot and delicious, gives you the real feeling of being served!
There were also tasty Hong Kong-style breakfast dim sum (which Guangdong people mostly enjoy), fresh-squeezed juices and oven-fresh bread rolls.
️ But let’s also take a look at the shortcomings they come with...
- Major flaws in A/C design
Warning: The room attendant was fixing air-condition units in my bedroom when I had checked into my room at about 6:20 pm; that really ruined my mood.
More importantly, the bedroom lacked air outlets, while those were present at our walk-in wardrobe and living room areas. With bedroom doors closed at night, the room may get extremely hot, forcing me to sleep with open doors. This would be terrible if you want a good night's sleep.
If you’re picky about ambient conditions, ask about AC arrangement at check-in and consider if keeping the bedroom door open, would be an acceptable solution or not.
- TV cabinet is a bit low.
You might only be able to catch two thirds of the screen if you view while on the bed due to low height of the T.V. unit. It’s suggested to make a change to the T.V. stand for best viewing angles.
- Hard-to-find Main Entrance!
When we got there that day, they were renovating the nearby roads. It has unclear directions, and the entrance to the hotel is small, so it will easy to miss when coming in by car. We recommend to use navigation maps to guide and find out the exact location from the receptionist directly beforehand, so you won't just keep circling.
- Lobby Lounge service needs improvement.
Even though the ambiance and the outdoor views were beautiful, the service was still less appealing. Waitress seemed busy and unprofessional as a customer requested napkins only to find them being handed from the idle staff. So much for uniform professional standards. This did affect my overall experience.
In summary, the St. Regis Hotel in the Qianhai district definitely offered a luxurious cloud-like experience but still needs to improve some minor issues such as the A/C system among others.

Definitely worth staying.
-
I wanted to do something outdoors that day, but it was too hot.
-
The only drawback for me was the $50 credit – that's barely enough for two drinks at the hotel and then it's gone!
-
The air conditioning was a real issue.
-
Good weather makes such a difference! Picture 18 is beautifully shot.
-
My friend took it.
-
Using points is great value here.
-
Oh, so you came to Shenzhen!
-
Haha, let's meet up next time you're here!
-
Haha, this looks way more worth it than the Ritz-Carlton, doesn't it?
-
Oh, so you're here!
-
The suite was a bit small and the layout quite ordinary. The decor and design are nice, but it's not quite 'top-tier luxury'.
-
Still, it's definitely much better than the Ritz-Carlton in Suzhou. However, in terms of hardware (facilities), it's nowhere near as good as the St. Regis in Zhuhai.
