Summer Heat Haters: Shopping at Dayun Xintiandi? ABORT MISSION! 1

Well, the design of this shopping mall is a bit hard to put into words! I'll help you vent and offer a reminder for foreign friends at the same time:

    • Speaking of which, doesn't anyone think that the design of DaYun TianDi in Longgang, Shenzhen, is quite flawed?
      • It's newly opened, claiming to gather numerous popular fast fashion brands that young people enjoy. I was super excited, thinking that I could finally shop with ease while enjoying a meal.
    • What happened?
      • After dining at a restaurant called Gebake, oh my gosh, it was so hot outside under the sun!
      • My well-crafted hairstyle instantly collapsed (Southerners will understand this!) and my little one started crying due to the heat. Thus, became a "little international tragedy" nickname for my baby ~.
    • Just want to ask the designer:
      • Do you seriously think an open-air rooftop design works in Shenzhen where the annual average temperature reaches around 82°F (about 28℃)?
      • Yes, I know your idea was to achieve a “get close to nature” sense but it's too hot to handle!
      • In addition, different sections of the mall are separated by quite some distance...walk miles!
    • Important reminder to friends visiting Shenzhen:
      • ☀️ Be cautious when visiting DaYun TianDi during the day!
        • Reason: Days, particularly summer days in Shenzhen expose one to very strong sunlight. This shopping mall has many open areas or connecting spaces without shelters.
        • What to do: If you are heat-sensitive, or bring kids with you, it's better to avoid going during midday or the afternoon when the sun is out.
      • 👟 Get ready to hike!
        • Reason: The distance between different stores and areas within this shopping mall can be quite far.
        • What to do: Wear comfortable shoes or simply choose a cooler time at night.
    • We left quickly and won't visit again until the sun goes down next time.

Shenzhen malls are all so cookie-cutter. A new, park-like, open-air mall like Dayun Tiandi would be a refreshing change, wouldn't it?

Not to get all serious or anything, but I'm just sharing my straightforward impressions as an ordinary resident.

So, when's a good time to go? After dinner, just as the sun sets, is perfect for a stroll. Summer brings lots of mosquitoes, so definitely use repellent. Rainy days? Just skip it. It's damp, ruins the mood, and you'd need an umbrella. For autumn and winter, daytime is best; nights are windy and cold, so you'll need a windbreaker. On weekends, check the event schedule. If there's a concert or something similar, don't even bother – it'll be packed. It's best to use eco-friendly transport, like an e-bike or the subway. If you drive, don't even think about parking fees; you might not even find a spot. Overall, if it weren't for Muji, I wouldn't go to Dayun; I'd rather go to Vanke Mall. The brands are pretty much the same, but the key difference is Vanke is indoors, sheltered from sun and rain, and parking is easier than at Dayun.

Exactly! You summed it up perfectly. That whole 'exposed to the wind, sun, and rain' thing – I think minimalists would find it a real hassle.

Adding 'New' to 'Dayun Tiandi' (making it 'Dayun New Tiandi') suddenly makes it sound like some rural-urban fringe area.

I often go for a walk there after dinner; it's quite pleasant.

It's really only convenient for people living nearby. For those of us in Henggang, the shopping experience isn't great if we have to travel over.

Dayun New Tiandi... Is that some new 'product' you've launched?

Even getting from the underground parking to the mall involves a stretch of ground that gets incredibly sunny – you feel like you're being baked! I live nearby, and in summer, I only go for walks in the evening or take my e-bike. Anyone who comes during the day is a true warrior.

Exactly! Do other nearby residents feel this way too? During the Jacky Cheung concert and then the Vae Xu one, we had to park kilometers away... But hey, there are tons of pretty girls at Dayun, which is definitely easy on the eyes!

Will there be a lot of mosquitoes?

Every time I try to park, it's a gamble whether they'll even let you in. And if the security guard does let you through, you're expected to be eternally grateful. Seriously, I'm speechless.

We always end up parking kilometers away.

I agree, parking is a nightmare there. If there's a concert on the weekend, forget about finding a spot.

True, it's best to go during off-peak times if you can.
