Guangzhou: Hard Pass. Never Again! 2

Guangzhou: Hard Pass. Never Again! 1

Hello everyone! I've just returned from Guangzhou and had a great time there. I must share my experiences with everyone.

    • We basically visited all the fun spots in Guangzhou:

      • Chimelong Safari Park (So many animals, perfect for kids!)
      • Chimelong Park (Thrilling roller coasters, screaming is all we did!)
      • Chimelong Water Park (Enjoying water rides on a summer day is so much fun!)
      • We also stayed at Panda Hotel (Kids love the place and it's full of panda-themed features everywhere!)
      • We climbed up Canton Tower (also known as "Little Waist", an iconic landmark of Guangzhou)
      • We rode the observation wheel located on top of the tower (The view is stunning and slightly thrilling!)
      • We took the night cruise down the Pearl River (Guangzhou looks absolutely stunning at night)
      • And we visited a museum to learn more about the history and culture of Guangzhou
      • Not to mention taking APM trains (a modern driverless subway line that connects major commercial areas through the city center)
      • We even boldly boarded the supposedly bustling Subway Line 3 (Be careful boarding at rush hours if you are traveling with children. It's extremely crowded.)
      • We also tasted local specialties such as crispy roasted pigeons which were yummy!
    • In conclusion, one thing and only one thing worth mentioning: Guangzhou is a must-go place where there is always something interesting to do, delicious food to eat and bustling people everywhere!

    • However! There is an issue that I feel compelled to mention and I would like to caution those who plan to travel to Guangzhou:

      • Mosquitoes! Mosquitoes! Mosquitoes! Why are they so vicious in Guangzhou?!
        • I felt like they targeted us travelers from Northeast China to bite while others seemed completely unbothered.
        • Over five days, I was bitten by mosquitoes 34 times, with bumbs of every size! My kid didn't escape either, being bitten at least ten times!
        • We specifically purchased "White Cloud" brand mosquito repellent but it was useless. The mosquitoes still attacked us.
        • Here in Guangzhou, I truly felt the north-south difference; the mosquitoes even have different species. They are black with patterns on their bodies and apparently called "Flower Mosquito" or "Tiger Mosquito" (These mosquitoes are extremely venomous!)
        • The bumps they left behind are huge, red, swollen, and intensely itchy!
        • To be honest, because of these mosquitoes, I feel reluctant to come back here since it feels like I'm donating my blood for free. It's not worth it at all!
      • Therefore, friends, especially those coming from Northern China or abroad:
        • Use mosquito repellent! Use mosquito repellent!! Again, use mosquito repellent!!! Repeat this three times!
        • Bring your most effective mosquito repellents and buy products targeting southern venom mosquitoes at local pharmacies once you arrive.
        • Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants wherever possible, particularly in places such as parks, grasslands, and waterfronts where mosquitoes congregate.
        • Otherwise, you might end up with numerous "souvenirs" on your body like I did!

I'm in Guangdong and I'm getting eaten alive by mosquitoes almost every day, like, tons of bites at once! Is it because of the big temperature swings back in the Northeast? Does that make our blood sweeter or something? Why am I the only one getting bitten when there are other Northeasterners in the room?

I guess Northeastern blood really is different. You see all these local beauties with gorgeous legs out on the streets, and not a single bite on them!

We were there for four days, and my husband got 27 mosquito bites! We packed up and hightailed it to Chongqing immediately.

How is it over there? It must be pretty hot too, right? Don't tell me there are no mosquitoes?

Same here! I got over twenty bites in a single day, even after using mosquito repellent.

People in Guangdong must be immune by now, like their bodies have evolved. The mosquitoes have to target newcomers to survive, otherwise they'd starve to death, hahaha!

The mosquitoes are probably saying, 'New arrival, fresh pork!'

I feel like mosquitoes love to bite 'heaty' people (a traditional Chinese concept for having excess internal heat). In my class of 50, I'm the only one they go for.

You should come experience the mosquitoes here sometime!

😂 As a local, I can say I've 'donated' my fair share of blood too.

From what I've seen, the locals all have smooth, long, slender legs with absolutely no bites.

I got 20 bites in one day, even though I used repellent! It's because I only missed my lower legs, and all 20 bites are right there.

My husband is from the Northeast and has been in Guangzhou for 17 years, and the mosquitoes still absolutely adore him, hahaha! I highly recommend you try Aolejia and Thai White Label Oil.

It's purely down to your body constitution.
