Shenzhen: So, What's the Big Deal Anyway?
-
Indeed, my first experience in Shenzhen was... indescribable!
Upon arriving in Shenzhen for the very first day, I felt a bit ill-suited to the new environment ("适应不了水土", which means that certain factors like climate and diet are quite different – your body needs time to adjust), and ended up catching a cold.
Reminder for first-time visitors:
- After arriving at a new location, it may take some time for your body to adapt.
- Pay attention to the temperature difference between morning and night, and bring a light jacket so you don’t get carried away by “recklessness”, leading to a situation like mine.
Feeling that the prices in Shenzhen are slightly higher compared to my hometown.
- For instance, at a popular chain beverage shop (called "Milknow Ice City" - you might have seen it as well), a strawberry bubble drink cost me 10 yuan, whereas back home, it would be around 6-7 yuan.
I need to particularly mention one thing: I ate a bowl of local noodles, and consequently—rightly so, without exaggeration—I threw up!
- Important reminder for those with delicate stomachs:
- Shenzhen has many local delicacies with tastes, cooking oils or seasonings that might differ from your usual preferences,
- When you first try these foods, take it easy, consume small amounts at a time, and see how your stomach tolerates them before going all out, otherwise you might end up "calling it quits", just like I did.
However, the city's public transport was very commendable, with budget-friendly fares. Hence, I must give it a thumbs up.
I decided to continue exploring aimlessly and then head back home.
Oh, with my limited budget and slow-traveling nature as a backpacker, this high-speed, high-consumption metropolis like Shenzhen may not be the perfect fit for someone like me. -
Based in Shenzhen. I'm a guy born in the 2000s, and I tend to be all in when it comes to relationships. Looking for a partner with good values and a clean, simple social circle. No agents or intermediaries, please.

Wow, what's this all about?
-
Perhaps people from the Sichuan-Chongqing region aren't used to Nanling.

I just can't get used to the cost of living here. I can only afford to shop at places like '零食很忙' (Busy Snacks) and '钱大妈' (Auntie Qian). Even Mixue Bingcheng feels incredibly expensive.

Shenzhen's cost of living is higher than Beijing's; it's only cheaper than Hong Kong.
