Shenzhen for Tourists? Honestly, It's a Hard Pass π
-
Alright, this one I am familiar with! Shenzhen is a hub of fashion, but sometimes it can be... hard to describe. Let me translate the vibe for you, ensuring that even my foreign friends can pick up on it!
Oh, talking about Shenzhen...
-
Sometimes, I wonder whether this city only seems more exciting through everyone's phone screens?
- Especially at the most popular 'check-in spots,' people are busy snapping photos and uploading them instead of truly enjoying the moment.
-
MixC World (δΈθ±‘倩ε°)
- As trendy and fashionable as it gets, it stands as a hotspot for shopping and lifestyle activities. Imagine various cool stores, restaurants, and art installations.
- Friendly reminder:
- Crazy, ultra-crowded; especially during weekends and evenings. If you aim for a selfie without any background people, you'd need patience and some tricks.
- The place attracts trendsetters who are all about their outfits (we call such social media fashion influencers "trendy spuds"), so for those wanting a major photo op backdrop, MixC World is ideal.
-
Sea World Shenzhen (ζ΅·δΈδΈη)
- Don't get misled by its nameβit's not your typical marine park entertainment center. In fact, it's an international leisure zone centered around a big ship named βMinghua,β surrounded by exotic restaurants and bars.
- Heads up, everyone:
- All the more beautiful with lights lit at night, full of ambiance, hence much loved for photography.
- The crowds gather around, mainly at the shipβs area and hot restaurant entrances, where the queues could also be long and quiet spots might prove elusive.
So, in short, visiting these places in Shenzhen:
- You'll notice people preoccupied with their smartphones or searching for perfect photo angles.
- It symbolizes an experience of China's modern urban life and social media culture (the term for taking selfies and posting to social media circles is called 'check-in').
- The essence of traveling in Shenzhen, I suppose, is a mix of cutting-edge trends intertwined with a theatrical charm. #ShenzhenTravel #ShenzhenCheckIn

I'm from Shanghai and have been in Shenzhen for half a month now. I don't want to go back, mainly because I've fallen in love with its mountains like Lianhua Mountain, the Country Park, Tanglang Mountain, and Wutong Mountain. Shanghai, on the other hand, isn't really a tourist destination. Anyone want to swap places with me and live here for a few years?
-
But it's seriously hot.
-
As for what there is to do for tourists in Shenzhen, even as a local, I'm not entirely sure myself.
-
People everywhere say that about their own city. It's pretty normal.
-
Go catch mudskippers in Qianhai.
-
Where is this located?

Definitely check out the observatory! On a clear day, the ocean views there truly live up to the title of 'China's most beautiful coastline'! Xichong Beach No. 3 boasts fine sand, clear water, and a gentle slope, perfect for swimming. Then there's Maluan Mountain; hike down from OCT East all the way to the Dameisha Seaside Promenade, and you'll discover a completely different side of Dameisha! Don't miss the sunrise at Luzui Mountain Villa, the crystal-clear 'glass sea' at Judiaosha, Wutong Mountain's stream-trekking routes, and the East-West Chong coastal hike! They are all worth visiting! Places like Youganwan, Jinshawan, Yangmeikeng, and in the city, Happy Harbor, OCT Harbour, Lianhua Mountain, and Shenzhen Bay are great too. Shenzhen ranks first among all Chinese cities for its natural greenery, and its abundant coastal resources combined with mountains are the city's true essence! Staying at the Sheraton or Intercontinental in Dameisha, the Marriott in Jinshawan, the La Riva Resort at Judiaosha, or the MGM at Xiaomeisha offers a completely different experience than just visiting the public beaches. Shenzhen is bound to become a major tourist city in the future.

Which metro line goes to the observatory?
-
Shenzhen isn't really a tourist city, to be honest. I don't quite understand why people choose to visit. It's more a place for making and spending money.
-
There's a certain spirit to Shenzhen.

I spent a day in Shenzhen today. Maybe it's because I haven't been to many big cities, but I found it really bustling. One piece of advice: avoid being outside during the hot daytime; I felt like I was about to get heatstroke, it was so incredibly hot. Also, I found the prices a bit steep. No offense intended β it might be normal for those used to it, but for an average person like me, I'm not used to such expensive things. The art museum, where I spent two hours, was the best part of my day. It's a shame I only had one day and had to leave in the evening, so I missed the night views. Hopefully, I'll get to stay longer next time.

You were just unlucky with the timing. I've been here for half a month, and it's only been this hot for the last few days. It rained today, so it's cooled down again.

Dameisha.
