Taiwan Bound: Spill Your Best Travel Secrets!
-
Hi everyone!
I've been thinking of taking a trip to Taiwan in June, but with the current atmosphere... (you know how it is!) I'm a bit hesitant.
To be honest, with the two sides being somewhat tense at the moment, I wonder about its potential impact on my travel experience.
That's why I'd like to seek your opinions:
Is it a good time to travel to Taiwan?
How do locals generally feel about visitors from mainland China? Will they be very friendly or will their attitude be more nuanced?
(I quietly worry about encountering unfriendly situations...)Travel Tips and Pitfalls to Avoid: (Please pay close attention to this section!)
Personal Safety and Local Regulations:
Has anyone recently returned from Taiwan and can share any practical advice? For instance, would it be safe to go out alone at night and what places should one avoid by themselves?
Are there any special customs or ways of speaking that need to be mindful of so as not to accidentally offend others?
Dealing with Awkward or Unfriendly Situations:
In case you meet someone who is less welcoming or makes unwelcoming remarks, what's the best way to handle such a situation? Is it better to walk away quietly, or should you stand up for yourself?
Other Tips and Advice:
Apart from the political climate, are there other potential "minefields" or tips for travel that could help make the journey smoother? Including transportation, accommodation, and selecting attractions.
Thank you! I hope to receive some practical advice!

Taiwan in June is super hot and humid! Make sure to use sunscreen, eat plenty of delicious food, and drink lots of fluids.
-
Okay! Thanks.
-
They're so friendly they'll even warn you: don't just eat randomly in Ximending when you're in Taipei, or you'll feel like you wasted your trip.
-
Haha, okay, thanks!
-
Don't worry, Taiwanese people are generally very friendly.
-
Come on over, don't worry! Just skip Shilin Night Market – it's pretty much the only one in Taipei everyone agrees is a tourist trap. Also, try to leave the area around Wanhua's Longshan Temple before 8 PM. Other than that, explore and have fun everywhere else!
-
Okay! Taking notes.
-
As long as you're polite, most Taiwanese people are very warm and welcoming.
-
Come visit! The food is great and there's lots of fun to be had!
-
How do you get a Taiwan entry permit? Aaaah! I've looked at so many guides, and it all seems so confusing and disorganized.
-
I'm studying in Hong Kong, so it was pretty easy for me to get.
-
I imagine it's already very hot in June. Be sure to pay attention to sun protection.
-
Very hot, expect afternoon thundershowers, and there's a chance of typhoons. Going to the beach or seaside should be nice, though.

Welcome!
