Could you please explain points 6 and 20?
-
- Yonghe Temple (Lama Temple) was where the imperial family worshipped. Common belief suggests you should visit it 2-3 times in succession. Since most tourists visiting Beijing rarely return the following year, I'd advise against going. However, if you're not concerned about such beliefs, or if you can indeed return the next year to fulfill any vows, then it's fine.
- Two years after this particular stone was moved to the Summer Palace, the Qing Dynasty collapsed. That's why it's known as the 'wealth-scattering stone' and considered unlucky. I think you get what I'm implying without me spelling it out.
-
May I ask, what's the reason for point 8?
-
If you don't have the 'right destiny' for it, we common folk would advise against it. Just take it as me being superstitious, haha.
-
Where can I find delicious Peking duck?
-
I tried a place highly recommended by locals: Liqun Roast Duck.
-
How can one get into Tsinghua or Peking University (as a visitor)?
-
From my own experience, you need to go through scalpers. I paid to get in.
-
Arriving in Beijing at 2 AM on April 12th? Wow, that's intense! Oh, and about that Beijing Douzhi (fermented mung bean milk) – just buy a bottle, and you can all have a good puke together, hahaha... That's hilarious!
-
Where is that 'wealth-scattering stone' located? I want to make sure I steer clear of it!
-
It's in the Summer Palace. You'll spot it as soon as you enter; it's huge!!!
-
May I ask which hotel you stayed at?
-
It was located outside the 2nd Ring Road but inside the 3rd, roughly in the 8 o'clock direction from Tiananmen Square. My private guide recommended the Jingman Zhilv Hotel. The price was around 200+ RMB, which is average, but it was decent enough.
-
I couldn't get a reservation for the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall. Is it possible to get one on-site?
-
You absolutely must book online!! If you can't manage it yourself and don't have any connections, you can ask a tour group to arrange it for you, but you'll likely have to pay extra for a scalper's ticket through them.
-
What is point 4 about?
-
There's a 5D movie inside that supposedly recreates the history of the Old Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan). However, its content didn't even dare to directly depict the events of the Eight-Nation Alliance. As someone patriotic, I was left speechless and very disappointed. Definitely a thumbs down!
