Guangzhou: Brace Yourselves, This City is a Total Mind-Bender. 1

Wow, I have to tell you that previously, I had the impression that designer bags, which were ridiculously expensive, were a symbol of status and made one feel cool and confident when walking. However, my trip to the Sanshunya Leather City—which is an extremely famous leather goods wholesale market in Guangzhou—taught me quite a lesson!

    • Can you believe it? Those branded bags, which would cost tens of thousands at specialty stores, were surprisingly identical in appearance to those sold at just thirty yuan (or a few dollars US) on small stalls in this market!
    • As soon as I entered the market, oh my! It was simply too much to take in! Everywhere you looked, there were shelves packed with every kind of bag imaginable – crocodile skin, ostrich print, and so-called 'limited editions'— all you could think of.
    • I thought I was showing off a luxury LV bag at the time; little did I know a storeowner's sister snatched up my bag and held it alongside their so-called 'high-end replica' and said, "Miss, if you bought this one from a specialty store , you'd easily spend 8,000 yuan for an invoice. Ours is only 300 yuan!" — I was completely struck dumb with surprise!
    • Strangest of all, I saw several foreign customers actually carrying huge hemp bags, filling up warehouses with packages they'd purchased. This was where I finally realized that this place is the true 'happy homeland' of middle class people (those who have a little wealth and are chasing a better quality-of-life). They all purchase these replicas but find genuine happiness through them!
    • Now, when I browse specialty stores, I can't help but smile inwardly at the dazzlingly lit purses on display.
    • When I touch their fabrics, they feel just like my old curtains back home; trying the hardware, it even gets stuck! But the price is at least ten times more than what I paid for replica bags at the leather town!
    • No wonder many netizens say that Guangzhou cured their "immature consumption disease"—my wallet has never before been so eager to experience the so-called "downgrade in consumption" (that is, not blindly pursuing costly brands and instead focusing on more tangible, value-for-money goods).

    Nevertheless, I have to note:

    • ☢️ Heads-up for fellow travelers: (Those imitations here look so real, it makes one doubt their own life.)
    • When I see young girls walking down the street carrying bags similar in style to their Hermes design, now I simply double-take and whisper to myself—could that be one of the accidental inventory overflow of some store?
    • Therefore, if what you pursue is style and 'looking like,' then the leather towns of Guangzhou might make you feel you have discovered a new world. Nevertheless, remember that these aren't authentic products.
    • If you really care about original products, quality, and brand value, it would be best to purchase through official channels to avoid getting deceived by these very realistic replicas—these replicas are indeed capable of fooling people into believing they are the original.

In conclusion, let’s say goodbye to wasteful spending behaviors. #GuangzhouLeatherTown opened me up to a whole new world!

Many sellers in Guangzhou these days offer cash on delivery, meaning you only pay after you've received your order and are satisfied. Plus, they usually have a 7-day return or exchange policy for any issues, so you can avoid these kinds of pitfalls.

So, that's why people from Guangdong rarely wear big-name brands...
