Oh my, Guangzhou! You truly are a moody, little unpredictable spot!
- Starting at noon and in the early evening almost every day, a rain shower will hit you right on time, disrupting my plans and making things rather treacherous (literally 'yin dangerous').
- No wonder in ancient times, emperors would frequently exiled their erring officials here (the Lingnan region, which includes south China up to Guangdong Province; owing to its hot and humid climate it was often seen as punishment, far away from the center of power), with such weather who could cope?
- So, when can we be free from this cycle of drying under the sun, soaking in the rain, and then steamed again in the muggy humidity?
Travel Tips, Pay Attention!
- Timed Rains: During Guangzhou's rainy season, especially during summer months, thunderstorms happen easily in the afternoon or evening. As I mentioned earlier, noon through 2:00pm and evening from 5:00pm - 7:00pm are peak periods.
- What to do:
- Always keep an umbrella or light raincoat in your bag when going out, don't lie to people!
- Watch out for weather reports; if rain is forecast, try scheduling outdoor activities outside of these time periods, or take refuge in shopping malls, coffee shops, etc.
- Otherwise, your carefully-coiffed look may "disintegrate effortlessly" without any sign.

Hurry back!

Quick, get back to Chengdu to get out of the rain!

This is so annoying.
