Hi everyone, let me get straight to the point!
Like I said to that friend:
- I don't object to taking beautiful commemorative photos during your travels—this "travel photography,"简称"旅拍"(lǚpāi), is perfectly fine and quite good!
- However, I really can't accept the kind of "over-commercialized photography," aka "过度商拍"(guòdù shāngpāi).
- Here for clarification: "商拍"(shāngpāi) refers to commercial photography. When it gets "过度"(guòdù), it indicates excessive scale and formality, resembling professional studio setups. This might involve prolonged occupation of scenic spots, affecting other tourists' enjoyment experiences. Particularly in places like Suzhou gardens which are delicate and elegant, taking Net Master’s Garden (网師園, Wǎngshī Yuán) as an example. These gardens are often relatively small with well-designed features, making them ideal locations for peaceful appreciation.
- Therefore, I will call the Culture and Tourism Department of Suzhou (the "文旅局") tomorrow to report this issue.
️ Important Statement/My Stance:
- True, I am currently “addressing the issue, not the individual,” meaning my focus is on the phenomenon itself, rather than targeting a specific person.
- I haven't posted any of the participant's pictures.
- And there hasn't been any personal attack either (to be honest, I think that friend had great makeup and styling).
So, what do you guys think about this? Feel free to join us in discussions!

To make it more natural and readable:
Hi everyone, let me cut to the chase:
As I mentioned to a friend,
- I'm all for taking some pretty souvenir photos on trips—that kind of "travel photography," or "lǚpāi," is great!
- But I really can't stand that kind of "over-commercialized photography" or "guòdù shāngpāi."
- To clarify: when "shāngpāi" ("commercial shooting"), which is commercial photography, becomes "guòdù" (or "excessive"), it means it's overly scaled up and formal, akin to a professional studio shoot. This could mean taking up spaces at a landmark for long periods, disrupting other tourists' visiting experience. This is especially problematic in aesthetically-pleasing locations like an exquisite garden such as Net Master's Garden (wangshi yuan). These gardens are thoughtfully created for visitors to quietly admire its beauty.
- So, I plan on calling Suzhou's Culture & Tourism Bureau—the "wulibü"— tomorrow to report the problem.
️ Important Disclaimer / My Point of View:
- Just to be clear, I'm addressing the "issue" rather than blaming anyone personally—I have a concern with this trend, not targeting an individual.
- I didn't post any images or portraits of the parties involved.
- Furthermore, there has been no personal criticism; honestly, that friend had lovely makeup and style.
So, what's your take on this issue? Please share your thoughts!
