Shanghai is incredibly competitive. It's fine for a short visit, but living there is another story. As a local, I always dream of escaping Shanghai.

🙄 Oh, right! And I also went to Nuannuan Station from Fish Leong's song 'Nuan Nuan,' Jiufen from Tony Leung's 'A City of Sadness,' the railway (Ruifang?) where Shen Chia-yi released sky lanterns in 'You Are the Apple of My Eye,' and Kenting, which has appeared in many idol dramas. It's hard to believe I managed to visit so many places with special memories on just a spontaneous one-week trip.

That's just how Guangzhou is, you gotta get used to it. Even buses have to take the elevated roads, making the traffic even more chaotic. And get this, some turns on these elevated roads actually have traffic lights, which causes even more gridlock. It's just ridiculous.

While queuing for a character interaction, a mother and daughter, right after getting their pass, just swooped in and took my spot. I was just hanging up my bag, and it was right by a heater. I thought to myself, 'You're cold, but so am I!' So I said, 'Excuse me, I was standing here, could you please move?' The mother kept insisting, 'We've been standing here the whole time.' But many people around me, both in front and behind, remembered me and had even chatted with me, and they all confirmed I was there. The mother just kept denying it, saying they were the ones standing there. I even tried to give her an out, asking if she might be mistaken. But she was still stubborn, claiming she was right behind the person in front of me. It wasn't until much later that someone else pointed out they had actually been further back. As the mother walked back, she muttered, 'Oh well, we were just standing here anyway.' It was so ridiculous it made me laugh.

Taiwan Travel Tips from a True Local 1

Hello, fellow travelers! I am your local guide from Taiwan. Today, I’ll share with you my heart about the places worth visiting and those that might require some thought in Taiwan.

    • South (hotter weather in southern Taiwan!):

      • Highly recommended:
        • Yitah World: It is a large amusement park and shopping center. Both adults and children will have fun here.
        • The Pier-2 Art Center: In Kaohsiung, this place used to be an old warehouse but is now an artsy cultural park, with many artistic installations and characteristic shops worth snapping photos of.
        • Anping Old Street: Located in Tainan, this is one of the first regions developed in Taiwan. Visitors can walk around the old buildings, eat traditional snacks, and immerse themselves in the nostalgic atmosphere.
        • Hsi-Ku Salt Mountain: Formerly a salt curing site, it is now a huge salt mountain resembling a snow mountain, which offers unique scenery for exceptional landscape photographs.
      • Consideration required:
        • Nantzu Green Tunnel: This sounds dreamy, but according to some people (including myself), the sightseeing by boat may seem monotonous and not as impressive as expected.
          • Little tip: If you don't have much time, prioritize other more distinctive attractions.
    • Center (the heartland of Taiwan, with high mountains and big lakes!):

      • Highly recommended:
        • Alishan: The views are spectacular! Visitors can enjoy the sunrise, clouds, and even forest trails to absorb the healing fragrance. The famous highland tea is also something to taste.
        • Sun Moon Lake: This is Taiwan’s largest high mountain lake, known for its beautiful scenery which includes cycling or boat tours to enjoy the serenity of the place.
        • South投 "Instant Noodle Land God Temple": Unbelievable! People bring instant noodles to worship the land god, the protector, and you'll even get the chance to eat it there, truly a distinctive feature of Taiwanese life!
        • Chiayi "Re-Heng Finance God Temple": People praying for good fortune may visit this temple to worship the goddess of wealth, and enjoy the blessing!
      • Consideration required:
        • Qiu Hong Valley (in Taichung City): It is actually a downtown sunken park. Although it has good greenery, if tourists travel specifically for this spot, it will likely only be suitable for locals to take their dogs for walks or relaxing. Tourists don’t have to rush to see this place specifically.
          • Little tip: If you’re staying in Taichung, you can visit it for relaxation, but don't expect too much.
    • North (Taiwan’s political and economic center, with many bustling cityscapes!):

      • Highly recommended:
        • Dasi Old Street: Located near Taoyuan, this place is famous for its Baroque-style buildings, with dried tofu snacks. Very popular!
        • LiChiang Street Night Market (also known as TongHua Street Night Market): A must-visit night market loved by locals, with diverse and authentic local delicacies.
        • Ningxia Night Market: One of Taipei’s famous night markets, with many small street vendors offering classic Taiwanese dishes.
        • Jiufen: Formerly a mining town, it is now a charming hillside old street, known for its tea houses and sweet potato pastries. Its charm increases as the evening comes, said to resemble "Spirited Away."
        • Taipei 101: a landmark that all must-see! Especially at night when looking down from above, take photos non-stop!
      • Consideration required:
        • Raohe Night Market: Another popular night market; However, I believe the prices have risen and it can be quite crowded, making it not as pleasant as before.
          • Little tip: For a better taste of the night market culture, Lichiáng or Ningsi may offer a better experience and a higher value.

All of these, purely personal opinions! Traveling should mainly be about having fun! I hope these little snippets will help you, fellow traveler! #TaiwanTrip #FollowTheLocalTouristPlan #TaiwanIndependentTravel

Shenzhen Cultural Fair: I Don't Even Know Where to Start. #WTF 1

Friends, let me share my experience at the Shenzhen Cultural Industry Fair!

On May 25th, I excitedly headed to the Cultural Fair, only to be met with disappointment. You won't believe what happened!

Due to a supposed individual or group named "October Sunny Day," Pavilion 15 suddenly implemented "closed access and restricted flow." No one inside could come out, and no one outside could get in.

The worst part? The organizers did not provide any advance notice! We watched helplessly as we had paid admission but were unable to enter. It was truly aggravating!

I hear that famous Chinese film actors like Huang Bo and Chow Yat-Fai have attended the fair before, yet they didn't face such restrictions on their visits. Who is this "October Sunny Day"? Why such an extravagant reception for just two people? It's beyond me.

There's an old Chinese saying, "Natural Disasters and Man-made Calamities." Some disasters are brought by heaven, others by human actions. I would classify my experience here as a man-made calamity!

Photos weren't captured well; I merely gathered a few haphazardly, my mood soured by the entire situation.

A Reminder for Visitors of Similar Large Exhibitions:

    1. Sudden Changes: In China, exhibitions may temporarily close certain areas or limit foot traffic due to VIPs' attendance.
    2. Official Notifications Might Not Be Timely: Don't expect the organizer to give you much advance notice about these changes.
    3. What to Do:
      • Stay Cool: It can be frustrating when things happen, but you need to adjust your schedule.
      • Flexible Planning: If there are specific pavilions or events you're interested in, try to arrive early or allocate extra time in case there's restricted flow.
      • Ask for Information: If you have enough time, inquire with the staff upon arrival or check other tourists' actions to see if there are any temporary restrictions.
