First Day in Shanghai (Plus a Frustrating Incident) -
Shenzhen: Tourist Nightmare? Why Everyone Says 'Steer Clear!'Haha, that's pretty much it. Besides shopping malls, all you have are parks.
-
Spill the TeaI couldn't agree more! But the only thing we can truly do is focus on self-improvement: strive to move into the main city area (Guannei), switch to a better service provider, and enhance our competitiveness as we approach middle age. Let's all keep striving together!

Let's Be Real: Shenzhen's Basically One Giant Disposable. It used to be so clean, and people respected each other's space and boundaries. While it might have lacked that bustling, down-to-earth vibe, life was still quite comfortable. Now, it's hard to even maintain a normal life. When you're out walking, you get honked at or nearly hit. The area beneath my building is filled with open-air cooking fumes. The subway is full of all sorts of shady characters. And driving? It's like navigating a field of moving roadblocks. I'm utterly speechless.

LOL, Guangzhou's current 'mental state'... I just can't. 😦 #Guangzhou #chinatravel.wtfIt's not raining constantly, nor is it the type of severe storm that prevents you from going out. You can still get around fine.

Guangzhou Chimelong: Jan 25 - Reality Check!Seriously, the staff at Happy World are just awful... no comparison to Chimelong Zhuhai.

Adios, Beijing! (Land of the Eternal Security Check)Yes, hahaha!

Suzhou 'Famous' Stays: Dodge These Tourist Traps!Seriously... I can't even find it with a search. How do you all manage to dig up these obscure guesthouses?

Guangzhou, You Had Me Hooked! ...And Now You'll Never See Me Again.Hello everyone! I truly adore Guangzhou because the local food suits my taste buds perfectly—I, a proud Hunanese cuisine enthusiast (Hunan cuisine is renowned for its spicy and fragrant flavor!), feel like I've found paradise in Guangzhou!
However, this is not my first visit to Guangzhou; in fact, this marks my third trip here (yes, I'm a "repeat visitor" to Guangzhou!) and my experience, well, it's rather hard to put into words. So, here are some heartfelt lessons learned that I'd like to share with you:
-
Warning: Finding Travel Companions:
- Avoid pairing up with strangers who you don't know well whether they're found online or at the last minute.
- To begin with, I was initially matched with a female companion who planned to bring her friend along as well. Later on, I got paired up with a male companion who, frankly speaking, was not someone who particularly had a great personality.
- Important Reminder: Many males who choose female companions as travel partners may have other intentions. Moreover, if you're female and find yourself alone with unfamiliar men, it may feel somewhat awkward, often leading to unspoken discomfort.
- Safety First: Thankfully, my male companion was not too bad. Nonetheless, dear friends, stay alert whenever traveling! For instance, you might consider indirectly checking their ID cards or informing your loved ones about their information and your itinerary to ensure your safety.
- Avoid pairing up with strangers who you don't know well whether they're found online or at the last minute.
-
Warning: Regarding Group Size:
- A group with too many people can make managing a trip challenging unless you have someone who is responsible for planning and deciding the itinerary.
- With a large group, it's often difficult for everyone to agree on one direction. One moment, you'll want to explore the east side; another moment, it's the west side. This can lead to chaotic schedules and even make it hard to find time to return to the hotel for some rest halfway through.

-
Warning: Traveling with Couples:
- Try not to travel with couples as it can become a third-wheel situation (which means feeling superfluous and ignored). You're traveling to enjoy yourself, not to watch them display affection or endure the envy sparked by seeing others flaunting their love.
- Furthermore, when there are people in couples within your group, your opinions may not always be valued. Even if you put immense effort into making plans, they could still get thrown out of the window because certain places might already be familiar to someone else, making it inconvenient for them to go again. Sometimes, you just don't want to visit a particular place (like somewhere I've been three times before and found utterly boring!). But, ultimately, you'll have to follow the group consensus, so it's exhausting!

-
Warning: Nightlife Invitations:
- There was a male companion who invited us to go to a bar, a proposal that I declined without hesitation with a polite "thanks but no thanks." My male companion did join him at the bar, but I chose not to go along.
To summarize, things didn't turn out quite happily in Guangzhou for the rest of my trip except for one beautiful consolation, the perfect hotel I stayed at.
As a matter of fact, I would rather have spent more time lying on my hotel bed instead of braving through those moments in Guangzhou.

Shanghai Survival: Pop That Bubble or Perish!Oh my, I've noticed people really like mixing Chinese and English. That's fine, I guess!
-
Taiwanese People: Surprise! They're NOT What the Internet Says.If online comments aren't a bit dramatic, how will they get any clicks? I've been to Shanghai and Beijing, and most people there were pretty friendly. Every place has its good and bad apples.
-
My Real Feel on K11 ShenzhenThe worst part about K11 is there's nowhere to get breakfast; you just have to go hungry...
-
Beijing Now: Haven't Been Yet? DON'T. Seriously, This is Your 'Hard Pass' Warning. My elderly companion has mobility issues. Is it possible to use an electric wheelchair to get in?
-
Taiwan Trip Done. Hong Kong's Awesome-Meter? Still Climbing!I'm not too sure about that. You should probably search on Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) for more info.
-
Taiwan Trip Done. Hong Kong's Awesome-Meter? Still Climbing!Hong Kong is definitely very convenient, but it's hard to compare them on the same level. As a travel destination, it's almost impossible to talk about 'value for money' for its food and accommodation. Plus, for a supposedly modern city, last time I was at a 'cha chaan teng' (tea restaurant), there was a 'No Smoking' sign on the wall, yet a whole table of ladies next to us were smoking heavily as if no one else was there—in an air-conditioned indoor space! I was completely dumbfounded.

Seriously Jelly of Big City Life in China! What's it like living in Hangzhou on a 5k monthly salary, renting an apartment? Any girls in Hangzhou who can share? I'm thinking of moving there.

Hangzhou Prices: Do Locals Even Blink at How Insane This Is?!Sounds like Changsha is a pretty livable city then.

Shenzhen's Grossest Tourist Trap? You Won't Believe This Place! And speaking of the subway, Line 11 even has business class seats that nobody uses, while it takes three tries to squeeze into a regular carriage.

Ugh, Shenzhen just keeps getting more disappointing! 😩 Anyone else feel this?Escape Shenzhen.
