Oh my! Dear friends, please stop asking me what fun things can be done in Shenzhen. 🤯

To be quite frank, even I'm a bit unsure myself!

Shenzhen, as you all know, is a super modern megacity right next to Hong Kong. There are plenty of tall buildings and tech companies clustered there. But when it comes to recommending must-try tourist attractions or local delicacies... I draw a blank.

So now, let me turn to everyone for help:

    • Any Shenzhen locals or travel gurus who've had an amazing time here,
please share some insights with us! Some must-visit attractions in Shenzhen, as well as places that offer mouthwatering local dishes.
    • Pleaseeee, your advice will be extremely valuable not only to me but perhaps also to Ah-Zhen and Ah-Qiang who may consider visiting during the May Day holiday!

⚠️ Special reminder for friends planning to visit Shenzhen (especially during holidays):

    Large crowds alert:
Shenzhen is a big city, so expect throngs of people at popular attractions and transportation hubs during public holidays like "May Day." If possible, try to avoid peak times; if not, be sure—yes, definitely—to book hotels and train/flight tickets in advance! Some popular spots may also require reservation for tickets as well.

    Transportation options:
The Shenzhen Metro system is incredibly developed, making most areas easily accessible. During rush hours, however, the metro may become packed. Download the Shenzhen Metro app and plan your routes, or use Alipay/WeChat's ride code, which will make everything much smoother.

    Exploring food:
Shenzhen is a metropolis with migrants from all over China, so every type of Chinese cuisine has a presence here. But to find the real local specialties, you might need to do some research. In addition to trendy restaurants, check out local eateries visited by locals too—it might surprise you!

Let me in on your top-secret great spots—let's work together to create an amazing Shenzhen travel guide!

Sigh, it's heartbreaking to read these comments. Shenzhen actually has a rich history, you know, even if most people overlook it. Let me suggest a spot that truly captures both ancient and modern architectural beauty, and offers a taste of all of China's best cuisines. Beyond the buildings and food, you can really get a feel for Shenzhen's unique vibe—make sure you visit Kexing Science Park when you're here!

And you absolutely must drive; only by driving can you truly experience this 'science park'.

Since you've already come all the way to Shenzhen, you might as well find a job before you head back.

Shenzhen's food scene includes: Longjiang pork trotter rice, Chongqing hot pot, Northeast Chinese cuisine, Hunan-style stir-fried beef, Chaoshan beef hot pot, and Hainanese coconut chicken.

The best place for fun in Shenzhen is Shenzhen North Railway Station; you can go anywhere from there.

Shenzhen isn't really a tourist city; it's more of a livable one. The dining and shopping are just so-so, and the beaches are pretty average, not even as good as Huizhou's. However, Shenzhen has good amenities, a pleasant urban environment, and fewer tourist traps. If you're looking for a hassle-free trip, Shenzhen is actually a decent choice. In this regard, even Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong can't compare.

Guangzhou is the truly livable city. Shenzhen's pace is way too fast; it feels like if you pause for even a second, you'll be left behind.

Judging by the crowds during this May Day holiday, I'd suggest you bring some local specialties from your hometown, apply for a night market stall, and make some money. That'd be the best plan.

The seaside there is quite pretty, isn't it? I'm from Guangzhou and have never really explored Shenzhen properly, always just passing through. But I'd love to go hiking there or do something similar on a weekend.

Hiking for some exercise is pretty good, though.

A friend is visiting Shenzhen and asked for the most fun spots. After thinking about it, I guess the thing that gets 'played with' the most in Shenzhen is probably my emotions.

Actually, strolling around the Shekou area isn't too bad. It would probably be quite pleasant, especially if it weren't crowded during May Day.
