Wow, let's talk about the experience of visiting West Lake in Hangzhou!

    • During the daytime, it was quite nice to wander around. The scenery and people were all quite normal.
      • As everyone knows, West Lake is a super famous attraction in China with beautiful mountain and lake landscapes and a long history; visitors must include it on their itinerary.
    • But! Here's the deal: when night falls... certain places, especially those near sculptures, have an atmosphere that feels a bit somewhat... what can I say, rather "terrifying".
      • You may not be familiar with the phrase "terrifying", but in Chinese culture, it usually describes an eerie, unsettling atmosphere that feels like being in another world.
      • Not so much frightening, but the lighting creates weird shadows around those statues that give the place an overall spooky feeling.

    Travel Tips & Friendly Critique:

    • Watch Out! If you plan to explore West Lake at night, especially the statues:
      • Mental Preparation: The aesthetically pleasing sculptures by day might seem strange due to the lighting and angles at night.
      • Recommendation: If you are sensitive to this "special" atmosphere or are accompanied by children, it’s better to view the sculptures during the day when the light is better.
      • Personal Feeling: This isn't to bash the experience, but the vibe at night is completely different from what I saw during the day, and those who enjoy hunting for oddities might find it interesting?

Ah, so this is the lotus-picking girl statue in the lotus area near Hubin No.1 Park by West Lake. It's been standing here for twenty years. Once the lotus leaves are fully grown, the 'lotus-picking girl' appears to be 'working' amidst the lotus flowers and leaves, and mandarin ducks and other water birds gather around too, ha!

So many complaints! The 'Beauty and Phoenix' sculpture from my childhood was removed just like this.

Exactly! My little nephew loved it the most. He was heartbroken for ages after it was taken down.

I remember there was a cow statue somewhere. When I was a kid, I saw it and thought it was a real cow! I even thought, 'Wow, people in Hangzhou must be so happy, they can even keep cows here!' Hahahahahaha.

The mandarin ducks look like they've been Photoshopped in.

Whoa! The first time I saw it was at night, and it was terrifying! I stood nearby, my mind racing with all sorts of scenarios, and I was even hesitating whether to ask someone for help, like 'save me!' or something.

I passed by last night and got a real fright! It took me a good while of staring before I realized it was a sculpture.

If you get scared that easily, maybe you shouldn't go out at night. After all, walking around in the pitch dark, you might get scared to death!

They have lotus flowers and lotus roots here in the summer. Bet you didn't know that, huh? It's a really beautiful sight!
