Call Me Crazy, But Hangzhou Totally Outshines Kyoto.Hangzhou and Kyoto are actually quite similar. Both claim to be ancient capitals, but neither truly has that ancient capital vibe. Both city centers feature moderately tall buildings, and their main scenic areas are nestled in the mountains. The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is strikingly similar to the Yunqi Bamboo Path, and Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka really remind me of the Drum Tower area in Hangzhou.

Thinking of Taiwan for Easter or May Day - What am I in for?Taiwan is genuinely very safe. I once left my MacBook Pro at the airport, and a kind person handed it into the nearby police station. I went to pick it up the next day.

Shenzhen's 'Disneyland'? STAY AWAY! (Huge Red Flag!)Ah, let me tell you guys, this place is really not that big!
- Honestly, when you look at it from one end of the area, you can see it all in a single glance—it’s just a small patch.
- If you came to shoot impressive scenes or large-scale productions, you might feel a bit disappointed as there aren’t many suitable spots for good shots.
- I have the feeling that it was quite exaggerated and promoted on social media, especially apps like Xiaohongshu, which is popular in China for sharing lifestyle tips and travel experiences.
- Lots of people (including me!) came after seeing those beautiful edited pictures and highly-applauded posts online.
- But when reaching the place ourselves, we find that it’s really just that small.
- Travel Tip/Scam Avoidance Guide:
- Lower Expectations: If you were expecting a large tourist attraction where you could spend half a day exploring, this spot might come up short. It’s really quite miniature.
- Mind the Filter of Influencers: Before arriving here, it’s best to browse through real reviews and un-Photoshopped pictures from different sources. Images online can sometimes be excessively beautified, which can lead to disparities between real experiences and what people expect based on those images.
