Shanghai: Still Can't Get Over Its Charm. Not Even a Little.
-
Wow, the city of Shanghai is so prosperous that it leaves you in awe!
- The inclusiveness here is amazing; various niche cultures can find their own place and thrive.
- Furthermore, public resources are abundant and top-notch; this is especially true for transportation and parks.
- This place is truly heaven for the "Kings of Competition"!
- Explanation: In Chinese internet slang, "卷王" (juǎn wáng) refers to individuals who strive for excellence and put immense effort into their studies or careers. These people may be described as having a tendency towards "internal competition." Shanghai is a vibrant and competitive city with an exceptionally fast pace.
- Travel Tip: If you visit, you will likely feel this hectic rhythm, especially during rush hours on subways or at popular tourist sites. Relax, take your time and don't let the hustle of the crowds dampen your enjoyment of your trip!
- But, surprisingly, to us ordinary workers, this place is fair enough to admire. As long as you work hard, there's always an opportunity waiting for you.
- I love Shanghai so much! And, you can feel everyone around you hustling for a better life.
- Friendly Reminder: Be mindful of the pace of people around you when walking or queuing in public places, which may move faster than what you are used to. This is part of Shanghai's unique urban vitality!
During my visit, I went to these places:
- North Bund: Great to view the Huangpu River scenery and Lujiazui skyscrapers, less crowded than the Bund with a broad outlook.
- Shanghai Maritime Museum Area: Worth visiting if you're interested in maritime history.
- North Bund Waterfront: Strolling along the riverside is excellent!
- Dongdaming Road: A major street in the North Bund area, home to many cozy cafes and restaurants.
- Lujiazui: The district with towering buildings such as Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai Tower, the night scene is breathtaking!
- Disneyland: This magical wonderland needs no introduction, always brimming with fun!

Wow, Si, you really know how to find the best spots! You make Shanghai look like an absolute fairyland in your photos. I could get lost on your homepage for hours—you're a master at capturing Shanghai, like a human GPS!
-
It's gotta be Si! Total die-hard fan here.
-
It is pretty good. Once you get used to the cost of living in Shanghai, everywhere else feels inexpensive, and you don't get that uncomfortable feeling of being ripped off. BTW, Si, you're seriously talented at photography—it's gotta be you!
-
I've stumbled upon Si's posts so many times; I'm definitely a long-time, devoted fan. You make Shanghai look like a fairyland!
-
I used to work in this very building. My take-home pay was 10,000 RMB. And yet, every afternoon, I'd still 'performatively' grab a Starbucks. After paying rent, I'd be 2,000-3,000 in credit card debt each month.
-
Hahahahaha, I can't take it! You're making me laugh so hard I'm going crazy!
-
A paradise for 'hustle culture kings'? Is that really something to be proud of?
-
Please, all you 'hustle kings,' just don't stay here, I'm begging you!
-
But people in Shanghai can be quite aloof, and the older women ('aunties') there can be really blunt and hurtful. I never felt any genuine human warmth in that city.
-
I don't think it's necessarily aloofness; perhaps it's just politeness, maintaining a comfortable distance. Some people aren't used to being greeted with overt enthusiasm right off the bat.
-
OMG, do I want to go to China? Goodness, am I actually thinking about going to China?
-
Welcome to China! I'm sure you're going to have a wonderful trip here.
-
@playcat Not sure if this MANNER coffee place has gotten popular yet.
-
Hahahaha, you go check it out for us!
-
And outside my window.
-
Shanghai isn't actually that 'dog-eat-dog' anymore, though the cost of living is certainly high.
-
Locals probably aren't caught up in the intense competition, right?
-
What a beautiful view from this angle! So golden.
