There's a place called Qingyunge Hotel on Qianmen Street. It's affordable, has a good environment, and a twin room is just over 100 RMB.

I was fortunate enough to visit a few years ago, and it was such a pleasant surprise and quite astounding. Whether it's the local customs and people, the cleanliness of the cities and countryside, or the high caliber of the people – it's all so different from mainland China. I want to go back N times!

Welcome to Suzhou! If you have enough time, I highly recommend spending a night in one of the ancient water towns. For getting around the old city district, go for green transport: take the subway, or rent an e-bike from one of the many convenient rental shops. Suzhou also has its own public bike-sharing system (often green bikes) – the first hour is free, and you can just switch to another bike when the time's up to keep riding for free. This makes it easy to explore the entire old city. During public holidays, it's best to avoid taxis in the old city, as even buses get caught in heavy traffic.
